Welcome To Capital Pancakes
Capital Pancakes is located in the heart of Canberra. Whether you favour savoury, or have a sweet tooth, the menu offers a wide range of mouth-watering dishes. Step off the street down to one of Canberra’s oldest-established restaurants with the original giant chess board still in place. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in this unique environment and peruse the old photographs of celebrities and other ‘rarities’.
Meet the Original Pancake Cook who learnt pancake cooking at the age of 22 from an ol’ fella from Topeka, Kansas.
After 50 years in the pancake business, cooking up a storm is now mostly left to the younger generation. But early in the morning you can still often find him enjoying the world’s best breakfast – and drinking far more coffee than is good for him.
Throughout the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival, CAPITAL PANCAKES are cooking up Batlow Sticky Apple English Pancakes from a slightly modernised c1891 recipe.
Caramelised apples rolled in a traditional English pancake and dusted with icing sugar served with cream.
Serving at $15 – comes with Coffee!
The Festival runs from 13 April to 5 May and includes more than 200 walks, talks, tours and events showcasing our region’s unique history. For more information and to see the full program, visit https://www.environment.act.gov.au/heritage/heritage-festival
“A Canberra institution with the lightest, fluffiest pancakes you’ll find! Love the variety on the menu, love the potato and cheese pancake, love the chess table and love the malted milkshakes!”
“A lovely period place in the heart of Canberra. Great pancakes and coffee, homemade butter, aged wood furniture, and great service. It’s easily my favourite eating place in Canberra one I visit whenever I’m around.”
“Bacon was premium, eggs were perfectly cooked and the pancakes were so fluffy. Everything was fantastic. The mega milkshakes are a must try.”
